This week I was in a very creative mood, so I went to the craft store and got a canvas. I didn’t know what I going to do with it but I just wanted to buy it. As the week forwarded I suddenly got an idea! I ones had seen a board where there was thread put over it so it could hold cards. I’ve always wanted one of those but I never saw one I liked so this week I decided to make my own.
The first thing I did was mix some shades so I could get the color I wanted and it became a very light grey. I painted my canvas outside because the weather was very nice. I wouldn’t recommend it because the paint will become very thick because of the sun. But it did dry very fast and I didn’t paint it too neat so it would look more ‘casual’.
In the mean time, instead of waiting, I got some old magazines and went through them to find some quotes, pictures or words I wanted to put on my memory board. I just cut a few out of Cara Delevingne (check out her siniging skills) and some inspirational quotes (which I adore).
After the paint completely dried, there is only one thing left to do and that is to attach the thread to the canvas. This is the part where you will need superglue or a staple gun. I used a staple gun because I didn’t want to wait for the glue to dry (impatient much haha). If you use a staple gun, make a knot at the end of your thread so the thread won’t slip away. You can measure the pieces and put them however you want to. I put four pieces diagonal and then one diagonal the other way. And because mine had too much space in between the thread and the canvas, I glued the thread (where they crossed each other) to the canvas. I just put the pictures and quotes I cut out of the magazine in between the thread and canvas and I was very pleased with the end result!
What do think of this DIY? I really enjoyed making my own memory board (as I call it) and I think I will put a lot more pictures and concert tickets on there. This is a really practical but also cute way to keep your family/friend photos and motivational quotes. If you put it in your room you will be reminded of those every time you look at it. Tag me in your photo on Instagram if you tried this DIY, I would love to see your creation!
