Feeling At Home When You’re Staying In A Hotel | A Night In CitizenM Rotterdam

A couple of weeks ago I got my first ever event invitation (very excited face)! I was invited to attend International Film Festival Rotterdam and to stay at the new CitizenM hotel in Rotterdam. I saw that some other bloggers already went there once before and it looked like such a pretty hotel. So when I got this invite, I got really excited of course and asked one of my friends if she wanted to go with me. And now I really want to share my experience of staying at the CitizenM hotel.

When you enter the hotel you have to go up the stairs (of course there’s also an elevator) and that’s where you enter the lobby part of CitizenM. There’s this table with a couple computer where you can check in. On the website it says that it only takes a minute to check in and it really does. You have to enter your name, it explains some hotel rules, you scan your keycard and you’re checked in. If you have questions there’s always a staff member to help you.

When we were checked in, we went to our room and it was so beautiful to say the least. The first thing you notice when you walk in to the room, is the big bed. And let me tell you, this bed is so comfy (I wanted to take it home). But that’s not the only thing you notice because we had a room with a view of the harbor (insert heart eyes emoticon here). In the room you can control almost everything with this tablet: Mood lighting, music, television programs, (free!) movies and the curtain/blinds.

The thing I really like about CitizenM is that they use a lot of funny quotes that start with “CitizenM says:” all throughout the hotel. For example on the bag of the hairdryer: “Shhh… the hairdryer is hiding.” Or: “The internet is all about freedom – that’s why we don’t charge for it.”

After settling in the hotel room, I really wanted to go and explore the hotel a little bit (and to take some photos for you of course). On the first floor, where the lobby area is, are also some very cozy sitting areas.

There are so many places you could sit with your friends and have a chat or take some time for yourself and work. The atmosphere is really relaxed and you can feel that throughout the whole hotel. This is also the floor where they have a bar (called canteenM) that’s open for 24 hours a day.

And yes, we also went to International Film Festival Rotterdam. We saw this movie called “Tu dors Nicole”. The movie was in black and white, which I really liked. Afterwards I didn’t know what to think of the movie because it didn’t really have a storyline and that’s what got me pretty confused. But I did like it and it was fun to be able to attend IFFR.

You may think that I am done now, but no. I also got this pretty cool goodie bag! The goodies consisted of: a canvas bag, a travel bag with toiletries, a notebook, a pen, a candle and an IFFR sticker (which I put on my new suitcase). Well, as you can tell I had a pretty good time. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you’re going on holiday because it’s really close to the train and metro station and also to Markthal Rotterdam. And thank you CitizenM for having me! What do you think of this hotel? Did you or would you like to attend IFFR as well?

Love,

Neeltje

  1. Oh wow that decor is stunning, I was not expecting that. Whoever they hired to decorate deserves endless awards.

And I love that more hotels are starting to up their electronic game by making everything accessible from a tablet. A lot of hotels here in Vegas are doing that and I love it.
