My 21st Birthday Celebration | Inspiration: Party

I swear it feels like it was my 20th birthday like a couple of weeks ago but no. Yesterday it was December 20th, which means it was my birthday! I turned twenty-one and this is a pretty exciting age because it means I am an adult in every single country over the whole entire world. Honestly, I still feel like an eighteen year old so it is weird to think I am now a twenty-one year old girl. Since it is a pretty special age, I organized a 21 brunch for my dearest friends and that took place on Saturday, December 17th. In this blog post I am sharing what my 21st celebration looked like and what kind of food I served. Enjoy! 🎈

Most people do a dinner for their 21st birthday but when it comes to a dinner there are always things people do not like or eat. So I wanted to do something different. Of course I went on Pinterest to look for some inspiration and that’s when I came up with the idea of a brunch. With a brunch you can just serve so many different foods so this was just perfect.

When it comes to a 21 dinner, there are certain things you and your guests have to do. You also have to think of a theme and make sure everyone dresses to the theme. My friends and I are not for these type of parties, so when I invited everyone, I didn’t think to mention a theme or anything like that. But when my mom and I were looking for table decorations and got home, I noticed that I only went for silver and white things haha. So yes, I had some kind of theme for my 21 brunch after all! In the photos below you can see what the table kind of looked like during my celebration.

Now onto the most important thing for the brunch, the food & drinks! The day before I didn’t have any classes so I decided this would be the day I fully spend baking stuff for the brunch. I actually started with the chocolate chip cookies, then I made brownies, after that I did the cupcakes and lastly my lemon cake. When I first made this plan, I thought it would take me the whole day but in fact, it only took me about three hours to bake all of them. When one of them was in the oven, I started to prepare another one. This saves you so much time and if you are blasting some Christmas music, baking isn’t that bad.

Besides the goods I baked myself, I also had some other things at the brunch. My mom and I got lots of bread things and of course snacks. With that, we found these little jam pots, sprinkles and types of butter to put on the slices of bread. For snacks we got little chocolates, meringues but also salty snacks like cheese straws and wraps with herb butter, lettuce and chicken filet.

If you’re planning on doing a brunch, lunch or dinner for your 21st (of any other) birthday, I have some tips for you to make it a lot less stressful. First you have to think of who you want to invite. For me that was fairly simple because I have a couple very good friends, I invited all six of them. Then comes a hard part because when are you planning on doing your brunch, lunch or dinner? I picked two dates that would be good for me and then asked everyone what would be better for them. Based on that, I picked the 17th of December. When you are going to invite your friends to your 21st brunch, lunch or dinner, think if you want it to have a theme or not. I chose not to but the table decorations did have some kind of theme, which I really liked.

The decorations on your table don’t have to be very expensive. I found lots of the items I used at Hema and Blokker (two very inexpensive stores here in The Netherlands). Besides that I also made some of the decorations myself, like the name tags. I just looked up a background on the internet, searched for a cute font, created something in Word and printed this out. A very simple and lovely DIY to make.

Since I am very grateful for my friends, I decided to also get my friends a little gift and that was this small pine candle in a glass. I wrapped it in see through foil and added a tag on this as well. If you search for gift tags on Pinterest, you’ll find lots of free printables you can use (also a great idea for Christmas)! In the photos above you can see the end result of the gifts. I had a great time at my 21st birthday celebration with my friends! It’s so strange to think that I am already 21 now… But that’s life haha. Next year I am able to sing the Taylor Swift song “22”, which I am pretty excited about. Anyways, when is your birthday? Did you like this inspiration post?

Love,

Neeltje
