Are you ready for summer break? Because it’s (almost) here! I am very happy it is finally summer but on the other hand, that means that time went by really really fast. It feels like it was the beginning of winter like a couple of seconds ago. Anyways, since there will be happening some things this summer, I thought I would write a fun update about what I will be doing, what I want to be doing and I also made a short list filled with tips to do when you aren’t going on holiday this summer. Enjoy! 🌞
🌴 THIS SUMMER I WILL BE…
… doing research & writing my thesis. This summer I will be doing a lot of school stuff. Boring right? Well, I am right at the end of my studies, so I have a do a lot of research and based on that write my thesis. When it’s done, you’ll definitely get an update on what my plans are.
… traveling to Edinburgh, Scotland. Aside from all the school stuff, I will also be going on little trip to Edinburgh with Lotte! ✈️ We are both so excited to go here and explore. We have already planned tons of things to do but if you have any recommendations, let us know! Oh, and of course I will post a travel diary about this trip.
… going to Strandfestival Zand with my friends. Music makes everything better, am I right? Well, since it does, at the beginning of the year my friends and I got tickets to go to this festival. The last time I’ve been to a festival is some time ago so I am pretty excited to go to this one.
🌴 THIS SUMMER I WANT TO…
… get more into photography. Since I got a new camera (more about it soon!), I want to do more with photography. During summer I just want to go outside, bring my camera and shoot some photos. Maybe at the beach? During sunset? 🌇
… organize a summer picnic with my friends. Last year I saw a video where someone had organized a picnic and since then it’s been on my mind to organize one for my friends as well. I was thinking about doing this to celebrate when I’ve finished my thesis.
… be more spontaneous & adventurous. I tend to keep doing the same things. This isn’t a bad thing but I just really want to experience new things and challenge myself. I think this summer it’s time to start doing this!
… start making plans for after completing my studies. I have already looked at some courses or studies I would like to do but I am not sure yet. When I finish my thesis I have a little more time to think about what I want and do some research on the things I’ve found. To be continued…
I know I am very fortunate to be able to go on holiday as much as I do. During summer you don’t have to go on holiday to enjoy summer break. There are tons of cheap alternatives you can do and I’ve made a list of four things I would recommend doing (and I may even be doing myself):
#1 Go to a food truck festival, like Rrrollend or TREK. Both food truck festivals are located in different places all over The Netherlands. For a festival like this you don’t have to pay anything to enter. You simply just pay money for the food you want. At a food truck festival you’ll have a lovely time with good food.
#2 Have a picnic at the beach with your friends. 🍹 Just gather some friends who are up to do a picnic at the beach, make a list of drinks and food you’ll need and let everyone bring something from the list. Cheap, very fun and delicious of course!
#3 Create your own cycle tour through whatever city you like. In The Netherlands you are able to rent a bicycle at the train station. This only costs a couple of euros. At home you can make a list of places you want to see or visit within the city you’re cycling through (you can also combine this with a picnic at a park for example).
#4 Go to a flea market, like IJ-Hallen in Amsterdam. I’ve written a blog post about IJ-Hallen Amsterdam before and I think it’s a great place to get away from the busy city of Amsterdam. Besides that you are also able to find so many lovely, unique and cheap things at this flea market.
These are all of the things I wanted to share in this blog post. I thought it was a lovely idea to share some of my plans and tips to make this a great summer. Like I said at the beginning of this blog post, I will be working on my thesis most of summer but that’s okay. In between I have a week off exploring the lovely city of Edinburgh, so that’s fine by me. Work hard, play hard. What are your plans this summer? Do you have any recommendations for my trip to Edinburgh?
